Coloured Clay Workshop ( single class )

CA$155.00

I think we can all agree that making ceramics feels good for the soul.

This workshop will run for 1 day

May 4th / 2025 1- 4pm at EQ3 Polo Park

The focus of this workshop is to create ceramic items using coloured clay. I have been staining my own porcelain for 4 years and I have loved the effects.

You will be provided an unlimited amount of unstained porcelain base. I will also be providing stained porcelain in an array of tones ( in limited quantities) From here you can inlay designs or mix colours into the bare light porcelain to create objects and pieces. This means that the bare clay will be the main colour in your pieces - with colour being an accent. I will not be providing enough of each colour for you to have a coloured base unless it was a thin small object the size of the palm of your hand. Making coloured clay is extremely time consuming and costly.

All the clay will be premixed off site ( creating stained clay requires a respirator and can be extremely messy ) hence the pre-measured quantities. I will be in communication with attendees about color selections to provide a fun selection.

You will be provided porcelain clay and tools to create up to 10 small items like brooches ( or accessories like bolo ties or earrings ), catchalls , tiny figurines, magnets, ornaments, small trays etc

If you have a templates or cookie cutter you want to use please bring it

I will be glazing your items with a clear glaze overcoat after their first firing. This means that no extra details will be added to your items after the workshop - just a clear shiny coat.

If you are unsure if any details and you want to ask questions about tones or have photos or ideas of what you’d like to make please read out prior to buying a spot in the class

A few extra details …

Shorter nails and working clothes are better for workshops

I will not be offering any lustre firing for your pieces ( gold, silver + mother of pearls

The focus of this workshop is to make small- midsize objects. Please be mindful of creating a delicate piece or anything with complicated handles or appendages - as it makes transporting your objects to my kiln very stressful.

I will be brining some tools to help you create catchalls in a few sizes. I will not be bringing my personal templates to make plates - elaborate edges are sometimes prone to cracking and the depth from plates can collapse during transportation.

Flat objects like boards and trays can warp slightly while firing.

if you are making pieces like jewelry I will provide u pins and simple finishings like the bolo backing and bar or round pins for brooches - I will not be providing cords, jewelry hardware or magnets

Your pieces will be fired in my personal kiln - after I clear coat your items they will be ready for pickup from my home studio - this may take 2-3 weeks. You will be emailed when they are ready

I have had good success with student work but sometimes not every piece is meant to be - from time to time a piece or two will crack, break or not meet your expectations and that is the nature of clay - this is why I allow up to 10 pieces per attendee :)

This class is for adults - no experience is necessary …. come to have fun and let your imagination flow

Workshop classes are non refundable - $155 is the cost for the single class

class registration will close May 1
